Unravelling Threads - Everything You Need to Know About Meta’s New Social Media Platform

It is yet to be determined if Meta has released their new social media platform (Threads) for the benefit of the internet or the detriment of social media managers and small businesses everywhere… 🤦

If (much like us) your initial Threads impression was a confusing combination between excitement and fear, trust that you’re not alone 😅

Comparable to a yass-ified stock market, the social media world is constantly thrown through highs and lows, with virality often relying on a ‘right bet at the right time’. Threads is the latest hiccup in a constantly shifting market, offering a rare opportunity for new influencers and stars to rise (or fall) with the platform.

Are you taking the odds?

First Impressions

We know there’s a lot to absorb but we’ve compiled our initial impressions below ⬇️

📱 Tumblr Meets Twitter - Quite simply, the Threads vibe sits somewhere between Twitter’s (pre-Elon) prime and the lighthearted sh*t posting of Tumblr, with comical range and tone shifts between posts.

🍎Apple coded much?? - Now this might just be us, but if there is ONE win from Threads it’s the aesthetic. Sleek, clean, and minimal - the whole app feels like Meta and Apple’s (classy) love-child and we are eating. it. up.

🤱Algorithm Growing Pains - To be expected in the app’s early days, but a combination of a learning algorithm and rapidly growing content pool is resulting in a rather confused, but quintessentially-online experience. Ultimately, if you are one for feel-good internet fun, now is the time to be on Threads 🤣

Food for Thought

We can’t wait to see what the future of Threads looks like… but safe to say we definitely have a few questions.

Is this another BeReal? Will it burn out? Will Twitter truly be replaced? Can Threads truly stay a family-friendly space? Do we want it to?

Of course, there are also a number of questions to Meta about the ethos of their new app. Announced as a ‘family friendly’ platform & designed to be swear-free, this aspect of Threads seems at odds with their (less than polite) Twitter target audience, and we're curious to see the future of this choice. Similarly, (in classic social media style) questions have been raised about the data security of yet another online platform, with the EU deciding to restrict Thread’s download access until more information about data usage becomes available.

Long story short - there are currently a lot more questions than answers 🤯

So Is Threads For You?

So where does this leave you and your business? We’ve dropped some tips on how to know if Threads is best for your biz on Insta & Threads.
